Uganda Tourism finally gets a new Board of Trustees

FORMER TOURISM MINISTER MIGEREKO’S APPOINTMENT AS UTB CHAIR HAILED AS MASTERSTROKE

(Posted 01st June 2017)

The Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, yesterday introduced one of his predecessors, and by all accounts one of the more successful tourism ministers in Uganda’s history, Daudi Migereko as the new Chairperson of the Uganda Tourism Board.
The move was immediately welcomed by a broad spectrum from the industry’s private sector, still remembering Migereko’s stand up performance as a minister. Several regular readers and contributors in fact applauded that finally some true sectoral competence was injected at the top level of UTB instead of some past appointments which caused at times consternation and at times outright critique.
Outgoing chair James Tumusiime did himself no favour when he lamented the width and breath of marketing efforts for Uganda and received a thumbs down response as many stakeholders felt that there can never be enough marketing and sales efforts for the Pearl of Africa.

Others appointed to the Board of Trustees were Mrs. Susan Muhwezi, Chairperson of the Uganda Hotel Owners Association, Mrs. Yogi Birigwa, Country Manager of South African Airways in Uganda, Dr. Sulaiman Katende of Nkumba University, Mr. Eddie Kirya of the Association of Uganda Tour Operators, Mr. Tom Wasswa from the Civil Aviation Authority, Chemonges Sabilla of Uganda Wildlife Authority, James Lutalo from the Ministry of Tourism, Zigiti Zelwa from the Ministry of Finance and last but not least Edith Katene from the National Planning Authority. UTB CEO Stephen Asiimwe will serve as an ex officio member on the board.
Congratulations to the new team and the best of success in the interest of Uganda’s tourism industry which has a fresh start to become East Africa’s leading primate and adventure destination.
