EXCELLENT QUALITY OF HOTELS AND RESORTS MAKES EAST AFRICA A TOP RANKED DESTINATION

Gibbs Farm on the slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater, a long time favourite of this correspondent, made it into the top 20 of the Conde Nast Awards for best global hotel in 2016, ending up in a very respectable 16th place but for Africa came in as runner up in second spot just marginally beaten by a South African property..
Other rankings for Africa saw Richard’s Camp in the Masai Mara come in second for the continental ratings, followed in sixth place by the Segera Retreat in Laikipia which in the global rankings however claimed 20th place. Richard’s Camp, on the global scale, brought more fame to Kenya with a solid 8th place.
Angama Mara ended up as number 12 in the African rankings while Grumeti Serengeti of &Beyond came in as number 16 while Sanctuary Olonana in the Masai Mara claimed 17th spot.
These rankings go to show that East Africa, especially Kenya and Tanzania, have made a huge impact with travelers and while no properties from Uganda or Rwanda made the top rankings, this should be seen as a challenge to do better in coming years and raise standards and services to levels seen in neighbouring countries.
