AUSTRIAN AIRLINES ANNOUNCES SEYCHELLES FLIGHT FROM OCTOBER 2017
(Posted 30th September 2016)
Following the success of scheduled long haul flights to some of the world’s leading vacation destinations like Mauritius, the Maldives and Colombo has Austrian Airlines, a member of Star Alliance and part of the Lufthansa Group, earlier in the week confirmed that a weekly flight from Vienna to Mahe will be launched on the 25th of October next year, giving a 12 months lead to promote the destination and have the plane filled with tourists.
Austrian will use a Boeing B767 for the service which is scheduled to leave Vienna every Wednesday evening at 20.05 hrs, landing on Mahe at 08.00 am the next morning. The return flights takes off from Seychelles International Airport at 10.10 hrs and is due to touch down in Vienna again at 16.30 hrs the same day.
This announcement is largely credited to the untiring efforts of the Seychelles’ Ministry of Tourism and Culture and the Seychelles Tourism Board to increase connectivity to the islands and bring more visitors to the archipelago.
With a new visitor record established last year, the 8th in succession, are arrival figures for 2016 already ahead by over 10 percent compared with last year, setting the stage for another year of sustained growth.
When asked about the recent political developments on the islands did one regular commentator, on condition of anonymity, say a few hours ago: ‘All Seychellois are united in supporting tourism. It is our mainstay economic activity and no one will put those achievements in danger. The former opposition now has a majority in parliament but the presidency and government are still in the hands of Parti Lepep. I have great hope that they will all heed the advice of founder President Sir Mancham who called for cooperation and compromise as the way forward. Personally I much regret the decision of President James Alix Michel to step down next month but Vice President Faure has gained much experience over the past years. One thing is sure that tourism will continue to grow and that everyone in politics, the business community and our people at large will work together to keep this important sector on the road from success to success‘.
