Bird Island now accessible through daily Air Seychelles flights

AIR SEYCHELLES ANNOUNCES DAILY FLIGHTS TO BIRD ISLAND

(Posted 07th September 2016)

Air Seychelles has this afternoon announced the launch of daily flights from the archipelago’s main island to fancied Bird Island, an island of less than a square kilometres in size and some 100 kilometres north of Mahe. Flying time is just over half an hour on the Twin Otter aircraft used by Air Seychelles for domestic flights.
Best known for the seasonal population of hundreds of thousands of ‘Sooty Terns‘ which visit from March to October, but also fairy terns, common noddies and notably hawksbill and green turtles, is the privately owned island a prime example of how conservation and tourism can work hand in hand.

24 eco-chalets are available for guests staying overnight and the management is in the hands of the Savy family who owned the island and the resort for the past three and a half decades. Simplicity is the order here for guests to enjoy the unspoiled nature of the island and the rooms do not feature TV’s, air conditioning or fridges, but cold drinks are available throughout the day from the lodge’s main bar.

The new daily flights make the ultimate get away easier to access and Bird Island more accessible to travelers from around the globe who either come to watch birds or simply to take time out for some Robinson style vacation.
