June 21st was World Giraffe Day. Across the world, people celebrated one of the most wonderfully weird creatures in the animal kingdom. This day also aimed to raise awareness about the plight of giraffes, populations of which have dropped 40% over the last 20 years in Africa.

NRT Director of Conservation Ian Craig awarded Order of the British Empire (OBE)

H.M Queen Elizabeth II awarded the OBE for services to conservation and security to communities in Kenya. The Birthday Honours list was published on the occasion of Her Majesty’s official 90th birthday, and recognises the achievements of a wide range of extraordinary people.

North Rift rangers awarded ranks

On 29th June 2016, rangers from four the NRT North Rift conservancies in Turkana and West Pokot were awarded their ranks, after being operational for several months. The rangers were from Masol, Pellow, Kainuk and Katilu Conservancies.

USAID partnership with NRT to Expand

US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has announced a significant increase in US support to Kenyan conservation efforts. This includes a grant to the Northern Rangelands Trust, awarded in October 2015. The grant will not only support our work in wildlife conservation, but also in governance, livelihoods, peace, enterprise and rangeland management.
