Fastjet close to decision to add more routes in Zimbabwe

NEW ROUTES FOR FASTJET ZIMBABWE

(Posted 28th June 2016)

Information is making the round in Zimbabwe that Fastjet, presently serving Johannesburg out of Harare twice a day and Victoria Falls, three times a week from Harare and twice a week from Johannesburg, is eyeing Cape Town as a new destination.
Also on the drawing board is Bulawayo, Zimbabwe’s second largest city, which from experience appears to be underserved and can do with more connections to the capital.
The talk about a combination of Victoria Falls with Cape Town on direct flights comes at a time when Kenya Airways is about to launch their own link between Livingstone in Zambia, on the other side of the Victoria Falls and the Zambezi River, with Cape Town under fifth freedom rights. This, come Friday, will be connecting two of Southern Africa’s most iconic locations, the Cape where the Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic Ocean and the Victoria Falls of the Zambezi River.
Sources claim that the plans are well advanced but it was not possible to obtain any information about a possible launch date or the number of frequencies Fastjet would offer for the Bulawayo flights from Harare and the Cape Town flights from Victoria Falls.
Once Fastjet however has gone on these routes will it be almost certain that former rival FlyAfrica will not fly again. Much about their mischievious practices had been said here when that airline was grounded by the Zimbabwe Civil Aviation and which has since then failed to return to the skies leading to their AOC lapsing permanently.
